Grave Cleaning / Cemetery Beautification Event

  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Pidgeon Run Cemetery

Registration is closed

George Widger (SAR and Pencader Museum) has asked for our help in his ongoing efforts to restore Pigeon Run Presbyterian Cemetery. The cemetery had become overgrown. Over the years, volunteers have cleared much of the main cemetery, repaired and cleared the gravestones and marked veterans from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Recently, many unmarked graves have been located in the main cemetery and adjacent land through ground penetrating radar (GPR).

On Saturday, October 1st (Rain Date: October 8th) we will meet at Pigeon Run Presbyterian Cemetery (Behind 201 Jestan Blvd, New Castle) from 9 AM – noon. Participants should bring garden gloves and tools (shovels, spades, picks, etc.) and insect repellent. Please bring containers filled with tap water; there is no water source at this cemetery for watering. Plants, bulbs, bottled water and snacks will be supplied. If you are a member and can help (family/friends included), please login to the members only section and contact Sarah O’Donnell. Also inform Sarah if you have bulbs and/or plants you can bring.
